Education Portfolio
Wendy
The education portfolio aims to work with students and staff at the ANU to promote advocacy and awareness. The team aims to raise awareness about the challenges and barriers faced by women in STEM and advocate for policies and practices that promote gender equity. Careers workshops under the education portfolio at Fifty50 are designed to provide participants with the tools, knowledge, and network needed to pursue successful careers in STEM fields. These workshops may include a variety of activities and topics such as gender equity challenges in the workplace, Resume and CV writing, skill development, and personal branding.
The team also puts together monthly dedications, posted on our social media platforms, highlighting an important aspect of gender equity in STEM.
First Year Mentoring Program
Dia Hutchinson
Our First Year Mentoring Program pairs first-year STEM students with later-year students for fortnightly catch-ups during the semester. This program is designed to develop students’ inter-cohort connections and provide a supportive environment where all students feel included – which are key contributors to the retention of students at university. Students first meet at the program launch held at the start of the semester and are provided with discussion content every fortnight. In semester 1 2024, Fifty50 had its biggest First Year Mentoring Program cohort with 83 students participating.
Since 2023, the program has extended to the ANU Year 11 and 12 Extension Program, matching Year 11 and 12 students with university STEM students to share advice on decisions leading up to university and beyond.

This portfolio typically encompasses a variety of initiatives aimed at building a strong, engaged, and diverse community. Organising events such as networking mixers, social gatherings, STEM fairs, and speaker series to bring together students, professionals, and advocates. These events provide opportunities for members to connect, share experiences, and build relationships.
Industry Portfolio
Daniah Alassaf
The Fifty50 industry portfolio focused on advancing gender equity in STEM through collaboration and dialogue. Through partnerships with leading industry firms, the team organises events to facilitate connections between students and Industry partners. In Semester 1 of 2024, in partnership with Engineers Australia, the industry portfolio hosted a panel discussion centered on "Diversity and Innovation in Engineering." Topics covered included finding ways to empower diverse engineering leadership and foster inclusive practices within the workforce. The main goal of the event was to showcase the experiences of professional engineers and facilitate a networking opportunity. The team remains committed to inspiring diverse viewpoints and aims to assist students in creating connections within their industry.
